Saving Space in Your RV Kitchen

Vacationing in a recreational vehicle is the very best way to experience a home away from home.  Most recreational vehicles have all of the comforts that you can expect in a house, but they are quite limited on space.  RV kitchens often have every appliance that you could hope for, but you must remember when planning your vacations that your cabinet space will be very short in supply.  By making a detailed plan for your vacation meals, you can really cut down on the amount that you pack for your trip.

A few carefully selected items will allow you to be creative and spontaneous when preparing your meals.  Pasta is always a very easy choice, because all you really need are the noodles, a can of sauce, and boiling water.  Salads can also be a refreshing summer food, and prepackaged salads can save a lot of room in your camper’s refrigerator.  All you really need are the salad mix and your favorite salad dressing.  If you really want to mix it up, though, you should do some research for simple recipes that require few ingredients.  You may be surprised at how easy it is to find delicious meals that are quick and easy to fix.

When you are packing the kitchen in your RV, you must keep the limited space in mind.  There are many kitchen utensils that can do double duty, which means you will only need to pack one thing for several functions.  A colander is probably a necessary item, but you can use it as a bowl for dry food, as well.  This can cut down on the amount of bowls that you will need.  Plates can serve as lids for your pots and pans, so try to remember to leave the lids at home.  You should never need more than one or two knives in your RV kitchen faucets, so choose wisely and leave the rest behind.  Consider what you will be cutting, and plan from there.

Remember when you pack that the water supply on a recreational vehicle is limited.  You can carry with you as many disposable items as possible to cut down on water usage for washing up.  Plastic cups, plates, and cutlery can go a long way toward saving water.  Just remember to put all of your disposable items in the correct recycling bins to limit the impact that your camping trip has on the environment.
