Preparing for Your First RV Trip

Many people have discovered the joy of the open road.  Traveling the country in a motorhome has remained a popular way to spend vacation, even through rising gas prices.  With the unimaginable luxury that is available in an RV, most road warriors find that their motorhome is almost as comfortable as their house.  If you’re planning your very first trip in your own RV, then there are several things that you can do to make sure that your trip is a success.

First of all, make sure that you have all of the RV parts and accessories that you need.  If your camper has a bathroom, make sure that the shower faucet is in working condition, and that the shower door or curtain is secured while driving.  You can replace any bathroom faucets before your trip to make life easier while on the road.  Just remember that you will have to visit an RV parts store for the faucets, because they are smaller than a regular bathroom faucet.  Keeping your faucets in good working condition can ensure that your water supply is not wasted.

Secondly, if you have a kitchen, you should check the kitchen faucet for any leaks that might deplete your water tanks.  Test all of your kitchen appliances before driving away so that you don’t find yourself on the road with nothing to eat.  By stocking your kitchen with several ready-made meals, you can save lots of space in the refrigerator and cabinets.  Don’t overstock your utensils, either; instead, find some way to use some utensils for multiple tasks.  You can use as many kitchen appliances as you wish, but be sure that you don’t pack things that you’re not likely to use.  There are many compact appliances available for motorhomes, and you can find them at most RV accessories stores.

Be sure to pack your own pillow for the trip.  By using the pillow that you always sleep on, you will find that it is easier to sleep for your first nights on the road.  It can be disconcerting to sleep in strange places, so it’s always nice to have a bit of comfort from home.  You can also take along any music or movies that will keep you occupied when you’re not moving.  If you must spend a night in a campground before reaching your ultimate destination, you will want something to entertain the family.
