Planning RV Upgrades
If you have owned your RV for several years, you might find that it is time for some cosmetic work. It is not always an option to trade for a better model, but you can do some work to your motorhome that will brighten the interior and give your vacation home a new life. As with a home, the best place to start with upgrades is in the kitchen. You may be surprised at the changes you can make, and the money that you might save with a few budget ideas.
First of all, you will want to examine your cabinets for any dings and scarring. Moving constantly can cause some wear and tear on cabinet faces that home cabinets may never see. Sometimes a fresh coat of paint is enough, but you might also consider replacing the doors. There are several RV supplies companies that carry doors to fit almost all motorhomes. You can also have cabinet doors custom made for your RV.
The countertops are often the next thing to be replaced. You can find some beautiful materials that are perfect for a moving vehicle, but be sure that you ask a sales agent about their durability before you buy. Many materials will crack and bow with the movement of an RV, so you want to avoid those. The same rule applies to any flooring that you may wish to replace. Vinyl and linoleum flooring may not be your favorite materials, but they will hold up to the movement much better than harder materials like wood or ceramics.
It may amaze you just how much a new kitchen faucet can change the appearance of your kitchen. Most RV kitchen faucets are smaller than home fixtures, so you must buy your new faucet from an RV parts store. They are fairly easy to replace, but be sure to ask for directions to make sure that you don’t miss a step. The water tank your RV is limited, so you want to cut down on any water waste wherever possible.
Finally, you can either replace an old dinette table, or cover it with a bright cloth. Seat cushions can be replaced, as well, which will make the overall appearance of your RV much brighter and newer. Install new doors for the bathroom, as well as a new bathroom faucet. A new comforter for the bed and some decorative pillows will complete your RV makeover.
